How To Show Up For Yourself

tips and tricks Jan 29, 2022

If you follow me on social, you know the past few weeks have been tough! Dustin, my husband, was out of town. Both, Eva and I were sick. It was a lot, but what can you do? (All my stay at home mamas, I give it to you!)

Since we all go through having sick kids, busy weeks, and everything in between I thought to share how I kept showing up for myself even when I didn't want to. Maybe you will find a golden nugget that will help you the next time you too are struggling to show up for yourself.

When you are having a rough time, remember to focus on what you DO have control of. By focusing on these things, you not only take care of your body, but you are less likely to feel like crap. These are the three things that I focused on these past few weeks.

First I focused on drinking my water! Was it easy? No, but I did the best I could. I know by drinking my water it will help me all around both physically and mentally. Come up with a drinking game. For example, Eva had Coco ON REPEAT this week, so I made sure to drink X ounces of water before the movie was over. This might sound crazy, but it helps keep you accountable.

The second thing I focused on was what I ate. I intentionally chose to keep my diet balanced. Did I eat Mac n cheese? Yup, but I also made salmon with it. (Grab my salmon recipe here.) Did I eat out? Yes, but I intentionally chose Chipotle in order to create a meal that gave me energy.

Trust me I wanted to eat crap, but I knew if I ATE crap I would FEEL like crap. Making those small changes in your diet will give you the energy to keep going.

I also chose to cook 1 thing that would help get me through the week.  Check out what I made here.

Third, I intentionally gave myself time to decompress. If she was sleeping, I used that time to reenergize myself. At one point, I actually took a nap too and/or took a shower. By doing these things, I was able to reset and be ready to care for her when she did wake up. It's easy to get sucked in to scrolling through Instagram or Netflixing, but those will do the opposite. They drain your energy.

We can all agree it is not easy when things are crazy, but intentionally making small choices will help you show up for them and for you.

This week I am writing from Hawaii! This means that I successfully conquered the strong man competition through the airport! If you don't know what I am talking about, this is what I felt like carrying all our suitcases, the carseat, and Eva through the airport.
Anyways, here is my photo dump of us here in Hawaii!
